Happy Hearts, Inc., Atchison Adult Learning Center was
established in 1970 with funds from a Title VII Grant
concerning discrimination. It was noted at the time that the
majority of dropouts at Atchison High School were African
American, and we're the forerunner of the alternative high
school. We have evolved to an Adult Education Center and
have associated ourselves with Highland Community
College to provide GED testing services. Our corporation
also administers a family literacy program, a Community
Corrections GED program, and a High School Tutorial
program. We are contracted with U.S.D. 409 to provide
educational services for long-term suspended youth and an alternative High School program for

 

 

 

 

 

 




We receive funding from Atchison Area United Way,
Heartland Works, Highland
Community College, Atchison
County, Atchison City, St. Benedict's Abbey, Midwest Grain
Products, the McConaughey Foundation, World Outreach of the Christian Church, Evah C. Cray Charitable Trust, Courtney S. Turner Charitable Trust, Exchange Bank/ Adair Foundation, Golden Star, Inc., and U.S.D. 409; as well as many other corporate and individual donors.

We are located in the Feeney Memorial Building, which is a hub of other service agencies. We are governed by a volunteer board of directors, which is composed of interested citizens of
Atchison County.
